TSCNY CLASSES

Our day classes bring people together for engaging activities, shared interests, and plenty of laughs. Participants can enjoy games, outings, creative projects, and meaningful conversations—all in a welcoming, supportive setting that fosters new friendships and a sense of belonging.

Volunteer Class

This class is for young adults who want to make a meaningful impact by supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. Participants will learn about challenges faced by the homeless population and how small, thoughtful gestures—like assembling care kits—can provide comfort and dignity. The class includes preparing kits with essentials such as hygiene products, snacks, and warm accessories, then learning how to distribute them through local shelters or outreach organizations. Along the way, participants will build teamwork and leadership skills while deepening their understanding of empathy, compassion, and community support.

Modified Martial Arts

Modified Martial Arts class is designed to be inclusive, adaptable, and accessible for individuals of all abilities. Participants will learn basic martial arts techniques with a focus on coordination, balance, confidence, and self-control. Movements are tailored to meet each student’s needs, ensuring a safe and supportive environment where everyone can participate and thrive. Through fun drills, structured routines, and positive reinforcement, students will build physical fitness, self-awareness, and respect for themselves and others—all while having a great time!

Science Class

Science Class is a structured, instructor-led educational class. Each month focuses on a specific scientific topic or concept. Participants receive instruction on the topic and then complete demonstrations, experiments, or activities designed to reinforce the concepts covered during the lesson.

Topics may include:

• States of matter and physical/chemical changes
• Weather and the water cycle
• Plant biology and ecosystems
• Human body systems
• Forces, motion, and simple machines
• Electricity and magnetism
• Earth science and geology
• Space and astronomy
• Density and buoyancy
• Environmental science

A typical class includes an introduction to the scientific concept, instructor demonstration, discussion of vocabulary and key concepts, guided experimentation, observation of results, and a review of what was learned.

The goal is for participants to develop an understanding of basic scientific concepts while practicing observation, prediction, experimentation, and critical-thinking skills.

Fitness Class

Fitness Class is a structured, instructor-led class focused on teaching proper exercise techniques and introducing participants to a variety of fitness activities. Classes include guided instruction in cardiovascular exercise, strength and resistance movements, balance and coordination, flexibility, stretching, and proper warm-up and cool-down techniques.

Exercises are adapted for different ability levels, with an emphasis on proper form, safe movement, and learning how different exercises are performed.

1.5 Hours — $150

Performance Class

This course is designed to strengthen overall performance, musicality, and musicianship. Students will learn to play a variety of instruments or refine their existing skills through structured instructor-led instruction.

Cooking Class

Cooking Class is a structured, instructor-led culinary class focused on learning food preparation techniques, cooking methods, ingredients, and recipes. Each class introduces a specific recipe or culinary technique through instructor demonstration and guided hands-on instruction.

Participants learn concepts such as measuring and ingredient ratios, mixing and preparation techniques, seasoning and flavor combinations, cooking methods, recipe terminology, and how ingredients change during the cooking process.

Recipes and techniques vary throughout the program, allowing participants to explore different types of foods and cuisines while learning how specific dishes are prepared.

Arts & Crafts Class

Crafts Class is a structured, instructor-led class focused on teaching a variety of art and craft techniques through guided projects. Each class introduces a specific technique, material, or design concept through instructor demonstration and step-by-step instruction.

Participants may learn techniques such as painting, drawing, collage, paper crafts, mixed-media art, decorative design, and seasonal craft techniques, while exploring concepts such as color, texture, pattern, composition, and use of different art materials and tools.

Each project allows participants to practice the techniques demonstrated by the instructor while creating their own finished piece.

Sports Training

Sports Training is a structured, instructor-led class focused on teaching the fundamentals, rules, and techniques of a variety of sports. Participants learn through demonstrations, guided drills, and hands-on practice.

Sports may include basketball, soccer, volleyball, kickball, Frisbee golf, and bocce, with instruction in skills such as passing, shooting, dribbling, serving, kicking, throwing, accuracy, positioning, scoring, strategy, and basic game rules.

Each class focuses on developing sport-specific skills, coordination, strategy, and an understanding of how each sport is played.

Money Management & Budgeting

This class provides practical tools and strategies to help you take control of your finances. Students will learn the fundamentals of budgeting, how to track income and expenses, set financial goals, and create a sustainable budget. We’ll also cover important topics such as saving, debt management, and building financial confidence. Whether you're looking to manage your personal finances or gain a better understanding of money management, this class offers valuable insights for all skill levels.

Learn About Nature

Embark on an adventure to explore local hiking trails and uncover the wonders of nature!

In this class, participants will learn about a variety of plants and animals found in different habitats. We'll also cover essential survival skills and emergency preparedness to ensure safety while enjoying the great outdoors.

Independent Living Skills

This Independent Living Skills Class is designed to give students exposure to a variety of skills needed for independence, such as grocery shopping, cooking, health and safety, homecare, ADL skills, navigating the community and communication. These important life skills are used as a backdrop to practice critical problem- solving and social skills.

Music Class

Music Class is a structured, instructor-led class focused on introducing participants to musical concepts, instruments, rhythms, styles, and genres. Participants learn about rhythm, beat, tempo, dynamics, pitch, and basic music terminology through guided instruction, listening activities, and hands-on practice.

Participants are introduced to a variety of instruments, including piano/keyboard, guitar, drums, xylophone, bells, tambourines, shakers, and other percussion instruments, while learning introductory techniques for playing and creating music.

Classes also expose participants to different genres and styles of music, allowing them to explore how instruments, rhythms, and sounds are used across different forms of music.

Bowling Skills Class

Through the exciting sport of bowling, students will learn proper stance, grip, and delivery while exploring techniques like aim, spin, and speed control. They will enhance their skills through practice and friendly competition, gaining an understanding of how strategy, precision, and teamwork come together for success. Students will develop focus, coordination, and problem-solving abilities—all while building confidence, friendships, and lasting memories in a supportive and encouraging environment!

Computer & Coding Class

Computer & Coding Class is a structured, instructor-led class that introduces participants to computer technology and the fundamentals of coding. Participants learn through guided lessons, demonstrations, and hands-on computer activities.

Topics may include computer hardware and software, keyboard and computer functions, internet and digital technology concepts, coding fundamentals, sequencing, algorithms, and introductory programming. Participants will complete guided coding exercises and projects while developing problem-solving, logical thinking, and technology skills.

STEAM Class

STEAM Class is a structured, instructor-led class that combines science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through guided lessons and hands-on projects. Each class introduces a specific STEAM concept and gives participants an opportunity to apply what they learn through experimentation, building, designing, or problem-solving activities.

Topics may include basic engineering and design, simple machines, structures and construction, measurement and geometry, patterns and sequencing, introductory technology concepts, scientific experimentation, and art and design principles.

Participants learn through instructor demonstrations, step-by-step project instruction, experimentation, observation, and review of the concepts taught during each lesson.

Fine Arts Class

Fine Arts Class is a structured, instructor-led art class focused on teaching foundational art techniques, concepts, and methods. Each class introduces a specific artistic technique or concept through instructor demonstration, guided practice, and hands-on application.

Participants learn skills such as drawing, painting, color theory, composition, shading, perspective, texture, and mixed-media techniques. Lessons may explore different artistic styles, materials, and methods while teaching participants how to use art tools and materials appropriately.

Creative Writing is a structured, instructor-led class designed to teach the fundamentals of written and creative expression through instruction and guided exercises.

Participants will also learn about body language, tone of voice, personal space, and managing emotions—skills that support success at home, school, work, and in the community.

Game Lab

Game Lab is a structured, instructor-led class that uses strategy-based tabletop games to teach critical thinking, problem-solving, planning, decision-making, and communication skills.

Each class introduces participants to specific game concepts and strategies through instructor demonstration, guided practice, and structured gameplay. Participants learn how to understand rules, identify patterns, anticipate outcomes, develop strategies, adapt their approach, and evaluate decisions.

Games may include chess, checkers, card games, logic games, strategy board games, and other tabletop activities selected to reinforce the skills being taught.

Topics may include:

  • Strategic thinking and planning
